Yulia Alexandr is a summer visitor in the Nonlinear Algebra group at MPI. She will start her PhD at the University of California, Berkeley in the fall. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University where she was advised by Karen L. Collins. She also spent some time doing research in model theory with Cameron Hill after she completed her degree.
Her mathematical interests lie at the intersection of graph theory, combinatorics, and algebra. She especially enjoys applying algebraic techniques to combinatorial problems. This summer, she is exploring the world of Voronoi diagrams in the context of algebraic statistics, under the supervision of Bernd Sturmfels.
Outside of mathematics, Yulia writes poetry and creative non-fiction. Her first book of poetry was published in Saint Petersburg in 2017.
