Federico Castillo

Federico Castillo will soon be a postdoctoral fellow in the Nonlinear Algebra group at MPI. Born and raised in Colombia he moved to California to do his PhD at UC Davis. After completing his thesis in the spring of 2017 under the direction of professor Fu Liu, he spent the fall semester of 2017 in Berkeley at MSRI. From 2018 to 2020 he was a postdoc at the University of Kansas.
His main object of study is polytopes. He is especially interested in doing (and undoing) Minkowski sums, general polyhedral subdivisions, and counting the number of lattice points on polyhedra. He hopes to explore the computational side of the subject in his time at MPI.
Other than mathematics, his hobbies include brewing coffee from around the world, immersing in books, listening to cumbia, and conversing with people.
