Nonlinear Algebra People - 2022

Gavril Farkas

November 17, 2022

Gavril Farkas obtained his PhD in Amsterdam in 2000 with a thesis on the moduli space of curves. After 7 years in the USA at Michigan, Princeton and Austin he returned to Europe in 2007 when he took the Chair of Algebraic Geometry at the Humboldt University in Berlin. His interests include moduli problems in algebraic geometry, syzygies of algebraic varieties, curves and abelian varieties and more generally exploring the connection between algebraic geometry and fields like topology or group theory.

He visited our MPI to explore connections with people in the Sturmfels group concerning curves and their moduli spaces, from a geometric, dynamical and computational point of view.
