August 2, 2019

Jose Israel Rodriguez is a Van Vleck Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

His research interests are in the application of algebraic geometry in statistics, optimization, and engineering. He received his PhD under the supervision of Bernd Sturmfels at the University of California, Berkeley. Some of his most recent interests include developing formulas for Euclidean distance degrees and maximum likelihood degrees and using multidegrees to solve polynomial systems appearing in economics, kinematics, and nonlinear (multiparameter) eigenvalue problems.

The summer school on "Randomness and Learning in Non-Linear Algebra" brought him to MPI Leipzig, and he hopes to return in the near future.
