Nonlinear Algebra People - 2020

Josephine Yu

June 30, 2020

Josephine Yu is on the faculty of mathematics at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Her research is in combinatorial nonlinear algebra and algebraic/geometric combinatorics. She studies combinatorial structures, such as tropicalizations, of systems of polynomial equations and inequalities. She enjoys neat mathematical constructions; her favorite math objects include triangulations, toric varieties, matroids, and determinants. If she had not specialized in this area, she would have liked to work in low dimensional topology (because of the pictures, obviously).

Josephine has never been to MPI Leipzig in person but often attends the Nonlinear Algebra Online Seminars. Besides doing math, she enjoys reading and going for walks.
