Doctoral Thesis Prize for Chiara Meroni

Chiara Meroni has been awarded the Doctoral Thesis Prize by the Graduate Academy of the University of Leipzig for her outstanding dissertation on semialgebraic convex bodies. Congratulations and well done!

Chiara’s dissertation was supervised by Rainer Sinn from the Mathematical Institute at the University of Leipzig and our director Bernd Sturmfels. After completing her PhD, Chiara has been a Postdoctoral Researcher in Mathematics at ICERM, the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics, in Providence, at our MPI MiS, and at the Harvard University in Cambridge. In 2023 she became a Junior Fellow at the ETH Institute for Theoretical Studies in Zurich.

The University’s Doctoral Thesis Prize goes to outstanding researchers who completed their doctorate with “summa cum laude” and whose work is distinguished by significant scientific insights, visibility, societal relevance, knowledge transfer, and innovation.

The prizes are awarded in the scientific fields Life Sciences, Natural Sciences (incl. Computer Science) and Humanities and Social Sciences. All prizes are endowed with 1,000 euros each.

Chiara completed her dissertation in 2022 and received recognition in the field of Natural Sciences. The official presentation took place last week at the Research Academy Leipzig.
