Our PhD student Laura Casabella has been honored with the Young Talent Award by the Special Interest Group Computer Algebra – Fachgruppe Computeralgebra.
From June 2 to 4, our institute hosted the 11th conference of the Fachgruppe Computeralgebra. Traditionally, the final day of the conference includes the presentation of the Young Talent Award, which recognizes outstanding contributed talks by early-career researchers. Laura received the award for her contribution "Wronski systems of real honeycomb curves." The prize includes €500 in funding and an invitation to give a keynote lecture at the next conference.
Laura Casabella is a doctoral researcher in the Nonlinear Algebra group led by Bernd Sturmfels. Her academic interests lie in combinatorial aspects of polyhedral geometry, tropical geometry, and commutative algebra.
The Fachgruppe Computeralgebra promotes teaching, research, development, applications, and collaboration in the broad field of computer algebra across Germany. It regularly awards several prizes to recognize outstanding scientific achievements, including the Young Talent Award, prizes for the best poster presentation and the best software demo at the ISSAC conference, and, since 2024, a prize for outstanding dissertations.
