Patrick Heslin appointed to EMYA

Published March 31, 2025

Our postdoc Patrick Heslin has recently been elected to the Young Academy of the European Mathematical Society (EMYA). Congratulations!

“Being appointed as a member of the European Mathematical Society’s Young Academy (EMYA) is an honour. I am grateful to the Irish Mathematical Society for nominating me, and I see this as an opportunity to represent my country and advocate for my peers," Patrick explains.

EMYA aims to support and promote early-career mathematicians in Europe, strengthen their role within the mathematical community, and enhance their career opportunities. A key goal is to serve as a voice for young researchers, and Patrick looks forward to contributing to this mission. Ultimately, EMYA seeks to improve the working conditions and career prospects of emerging mathematicians now and in the future.

About Patrick Heslin:

Patrick Heslin has been a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Székelyhidi's Applied Analysis group since September 2024. Originally from Leitrim, Ireland, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, USA, under the supervision of Prof. Gerard Misiołek.

His research focuses on the geometry and analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations arising in fluid dynamics and other areas of mathematical physics. More specifically, he studies the Riemannian geometry of diffeomorphism groups equipped with right invariant metrics of Sobolev-type.
