Introduction to toric varieties

In September I will give a series of introductory talks to the subject of toric varieties. These are among best understood algebraic varieties, often appearing in applications. The plan is to provide (in an informal setting) basic constructions, definition and methods of this very interesting subject. In short, a toric variety is the image of a monomial map. The exponents of the monomials provide the combinatorial structure that encodes the properties of the toric variety. At any point questions and remarks are very welcome!
