The Quantum Hall Effect Leaves Flatland
Since the epoch of general relativity, scientists have dealt with higher-dimensional
wonderlands. The contemporary field of topological condensed matter similarly deals
with systems of arbitrary dimensions. Nowadays synthetic dimensions can be quantum
engineered in the lab. For the first time, we have thus proposed and realized physics of
the 4D Hall effect in experiments.
